Bruce Sumner

Bruce Sumner, President and District Executive Minister

Bruce Sumner, President and District Executive Minister of Converge Southwest since 2001, earned an MDiv at Talbot Theological Seminary.  Under his leadership at CSW, over 60 church plants have been started.  Overseeing 120 churches and 400 ministry leaders throughout Southern California, Arizona and Texas, Bruce also serves on various leadership boards, including Bethel Seminary San Diego, providing leadership training and development.  He also serves internationally in Southeast Asia and in the Nordic Baltic region of Europe.  Bruce is passionate about Kingdom advancement as God's presence is evident throughout the Converge movement of starting and strengthening churches; fully recognizing that we are "better together". Married to Kym since 1976, the Sumners' two sons and their families also reside in the San Diego area.  In Bruce's "free time" he loves to golf, sail, travel and recently earned a scuba diving certification.

Kim Sumner

Kym Sumner

Kym Sumner has been in full-time ministry for over 30 years in various roles. She has been a lead pastor wife, worked with church planters’ wives and is the Founder/Director of GraceNet Ministry. Part of Converge Southwest, GraceNet provides a safe, caring and supportive environment for lead pastors’ wives. Married to Bruce since 1976, Kym is the mother to two sons and Nana to her beloved grandchildren. Kym travels extensively with Bruce, supporting over 120 ministry couples.

Bill Ankerberg

Bill Ankerberg, Director of Operations

Bill Ankerberg, a Bethel University and Bethel Theological Seminary graduate, served as Senior Pastor of Whittier Area Community Church from 1996 to 2013 with the mission statement: Follow God + Love People. If you've ever met Bill, you'll agree that he lives out this mission. After “retiring” from Whittier, Bill has not slowed down for a ministry moment. He and his wife since 1973, Arlie, are Regional Directors for the Nordic-Baltic area for Converge. A former Trustee of Bethel University, Bill is a current member of the Executive Board of Bethel Seminary, San Diego. Also serving as our Converge Southwest Board Chair, Bill has recently accepted the invitation to partner with Bruce and our ministry team as the Director of Operations, with a focus on strengthening churches. Bill and Arlie have three grown children and six grandchildren. In his spare time, he ... well ... in his own words, "doesn't have time for hobbies". He and Bruce, however, have been known to swing golf clubs from time to time.

Janie Plante

Janie Plante, Executive Assistant to Bruce Sumner

Janie Plante has served as the Executive Assistant to Bruce Sumner since July, 2011, after relocating to sunny San Diego from Minnesota.  Originally from Seattle, Janie's prior ministry and varied roles include administration at a Converge Church in Minnesota, worship leading, prayer ministry for expectant mothers, public speaking and alongside her chiropractor husband, Chuck, since 1985, raising four sons, Austin, Taylor, Spencer & Brighton. Janie enjoys writing and performing music, reading, biking and spending quality time with family, Boston Terriers Django & Titan, and hanging out with good friends. Both grateful and invigorated to be part of the CSW team, Janie hopes to continually grow with the ministry, discovering daily the myriad, ever-changing responsibilities associated with her position on staff.

Maritza Maio

Maritza Maio, Accounting Manager

Maritza Maio is the Accounting Manager at Converge Southwest since November of 2006. When she is not crunching numbers, preparing reports, entering data and providing a keen eye and applying expertise to all financial aspects of CSW, you will find her running from point to point with her four boys… three sons and her “hubby” since 2002. Although Maritza loves to run half-marathons and shop (especially for other people!), when she does get a little bit of “me time” it turns out she shrugs it off and instead, volunteers at her sons’ schools.
